In the lead up to World Diabetes Day, 2020 Australian of the Year and ophthalmologist, Dr James Muecke AM delivered a moving and impactful key note presentation on the story of Neil Hansell, a man who woke one morning blind in both eyes due to neglect of his diabetes. The IAPB Covid-19 & Eye Health Webinar was chaired by Dr Fabrizio D’Esposito and included an engaging panel discussion addressing the links between the sugar epidemic, the COVID-19 pandemic and the global gaps where tackling Diabetic Retinopathy.
I was the MYT Programme Lead for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) Events team for this webinar and feel very lucky to have the opportunity to ‘listen in’ to the discussions.
