NNN 2026 Opening Plenary Community Panel Word Cloud

The voices of community representatives with lived experience of NTDs set the scene for the NTD NGO Network (NNN) 2026 Opening Plenary with clear calls to action for the network and wider NTD community.  Their message was clear: not only did they want a direct response from stakeholder panellists but they also wanted every attendee to carry the conversation forward through their own work.

As a facilitator, I love creating opportunities for everyone to contribute instead of passively listening in plenary. Our live polls enabled 300+ attendees to actively reflect on which calls to action resonated most and what they would take back to their work.  Our core guiding values detailed in our Blueprint for Action featured strongly with Community, Engagement, Meaningful Participation and Inclusion appearing 100+ times.

I loved working closely with Aparna and the Plenary Task Group to shape the opening session. Guided beautifully by Aparna and informed by Amaka’s experience as a representative of affected communities, we carefully considered task group suggestions, taking time to listen and support our panellists in sharing their heartfelt and powerful messages.

We also sought feedback from 27 affected persons attending this year to understand how best to support their participation, offering guidance, a meet & greet with the DMDI Working Group and support via the Affected Communities Hub during the conference.

A huge thank you to everyone who made the session such a success. The positive feedback from attendees shows just how impactful it was to put community voices at the heart of Day 1.
